Meet Glitter

*** Glitter is a special needs cat because she has a heart murmur, and will require monitoring from a cardiologist throughout her lifetime. At this point she needs no special care and has a good prognosis, but her care is going to be a bit more expensive than the average cat. ***

Glitter was rescued off the streets as a stray. She’s an extremely outgoing, friendly girl, about 2 years old, who’s very affectionate and loves to give head-butts! She’s a very easy cat, and although she’s just starting to settle into her foster home, she seems interested in other cats and might even be OK with dogs.

While she was getting spayed, the vet noted that Glitter has a pretty significant (grade 4 out of 6) heart murmur. In order to be able to find her the best possible, and most appropriate home, I took her to a specialist to get a full work-up, which can be passed along to her eventual adopter.

Glitter has a ventricular septal defect (VSD), which should be monitored regularly. It’s recommended that she see a cardiologist for an ultrasound once a year. (I took her to CVCA in Columbia, the cost was about $850.) While no one can predict how these things will go, the cardiologist thought she was at a low risk of cardiac complications. If her condition were to worsen, she might need medication or more frequent monitoring. (I’m happy to provide the cardiologist’s report to any interested adopters.) If she ever needs to go under anesthesia for a surgical procedure, she will require careful monitoring, but otherwise, she doesn’t need any special care unless her condition progresses.

In all other aspects, Glitter is just about a perfect cat… outgoing, affectionate, and very interested in people! She just needs an adopter who’s willing and able to provide an extra level of care to ensure she lives a long and happy life.

If you have any questions about Glitter, you can email her foster mom, Erin, at eharty@gmail.com. If you’re interested in potentially meeting her, the first step is to fill out an application, available here: http://bit.ly/pigtowncats
