Sesame is a nine-year old male quaker parakeet. He's hand tamed and once he warms up he loves being held. Loves to preen and lick. Obsessed with giving kisses, and will make a smooch sound if you do. Behavior-wise, he has cage aggression, but once used to his handler/others will allow them to touch cage. He nips when overwhelmed or overstimulated, which is common to Quaker parrots. Sesame does call when left alone, but usually abates after 5-10 minutes and will try to whistle and sing to woo you back into the room. Likes having documentaries left on when he’s alone! Sesame is the sweetest, sassiest little guy. Honestly he’s a gem, and has so much personality. I love him dearly and only want the best home for him. He wasn’t given much attention in his previous home, and his diet consisted of mainly seed. I’ve been weaning him off of that diet and introducing fresh produce. He would sell his soul for a sunflower seed, and I’ve been working on clicker training him. He has been responding well to this! Does not like sudden hand movements, like most birds, and responds better to positive reinforcement than negative. He has two cages that will come with him, a carrier, feed, paper linings for cage cleaning, toys, and a suction perch for windows or showers. Everything is in mint condition, as he hasn’t used the second cage yet because he is scared of it.

I’ve noticed, while being his main handler and being female, that he prefers men over women. Meaning, he bonds much quicker to men than women. Don’t let that dissuade you, he took 5 days to bond with me and to hold him, but let my boyfriend hold and pet him in less than a day.

He loves sitting on his window perch in the mornings, but prefers quieter windows. He loves being misted with a spray bottle, and prefers to hop in his water bowl for a bath. I’ve been trying alternative bowls but he’s stubborn and loves his water bowl.

If possible, I would prefer to keep in contact with the new owner just to check in every once in a while, I want him to be showered with love and affection. He’s a wonderful bird and will be a great addition to your household.

(His sleep routine is ~10:00pm-10:00am.)

Reason for re-homing: I just adopted this sweet boy a couple weeks prior with landlord permission, however landlord rescinded permission and wishes me to re-home as he hates hearing Sesame call during that 5-10 minutes timeframe.

His diet consists of: Zupreem fruit pellets, mixed seeds, hasn’t taken to too many vegetables yet but really loves banana. Does not like strawberry or apple.

Must be placed by January 1, 2021
