Meet Gamora and Nebula

Nebula (mom) and Gamora (daughter) are two rats who arrived to us, along with several others, from an unfortunate situation in Long Island. A family had purchased a group of young rats to be used as live snake food, but as their snake left two alive, the rats managed to mate, and the numbers started growing. The wife started feeling bad for the rats, separated them by gender, and started a search of her own, in hopes to find them homes. Realizing she was fighting a losing battle, as none of her friends shared her compassion, and the rats outgrew the small tanks that they shared, she reached out to rescues asking for help. Her last resort was returning all to the pet store, where they would likely be used as snake food. Once we learned of this situation, we acted quickly to have all the rats in our care by the next day.

Nebula is only a few months old, very curious about humans, and enjoys attention, exploring, and eating all kinds of delicious treats. Gamora is about 2 months old, and she is a little more shy around people, but she follows mom very closely and does as she does. They are still adjusting to their new surroundings, balanced diets, and new caretakers, and they also enjoy watching the other animals living in their foster home from a high perch. The girls are available to a home with experienced rat guardians, or to new ones who are patient and gentle, and willing to show the girls that humans can be kind and fun.
