Bernard M11040's Story

Meet Bernard!
Much like his namesake from The Rescuers, Bernard is the sweet, cautious half of his little duo. His buddy Splinter may be a little quicker to jump into an adventure, while Bernard prefers to investigate things at his own pace-preferably with the promise of a delicious snack involved!

And Bernard does love his snacks. Treats bring out his bravest side, and he's learned that when people enter the room, good things tend to happen. He may not be particularly interested in being handled, but he's very interested in what his humans are doing-especially if they might be carrying something tasty.

When Bernard isn't checking on the snack situation, you'll probably find him snoozing in one of his two favorite places: curled up in his hammock or tucked underneath his blanket. And sometimes he doesn't even bother coming all the way out to investigate. Instead, one tiny nose appears from under the blanket, followed by some very serious sniffing to determine exactly what is happening in his room.

Lately, Bernard has been working on a new adventure: discovering that the little stairway leading out of his cage might actually be worth exploring! He's taking it one brave step at a time, and it's been so much fun watching his curiosity grow as he realizes there's a whole world beyond his cozy cage.

Bernard is still a cautious guy, and he'll be happiest with someone who doesn't expect him to become a rat who loves being picked up and carried around. What he does have to offer is his own sweet kind of companionship: watching you from his hammock, popping out when something interesting is happening, getting braver when the treats appear, and occasionally conducting an extremely thorough investigation with nothing but his nose sticking out from underneath a blanket.

Bernard and Splinter are a bonded pair and are looking for their forever home together. Splinter can help lead the adventures, Bernard can make sure everything passes the sniff test, and together they make a pretty wonderful little team.

If you have room in your home for two little guys-and a good supply of snacks-Bernard and Splinter would love to meet you!
