Meet Firecracker E. Mud Turtle

Please read this description carefully. Most of your questions will be answered below. My foster person calls me a "firecracker" because I have a big attitude in a very small body.

I'm an aquatic female eastern mud turtle for adoption in the Baltimore area. I'm considered special needs because my hind legs never developed properly, and they're non-functional. I can swim, but need to be in shallow water (about 4-5"), and my basking area has to allow me to pull myself up with my front legs. I'm about 10 yrs old, and could live another 10.

I'm a very small turtle, about 4", so a 50 gallon stock tank or 40 gallon "breeder" sized aquarium would make a fabulous home for me, since I tend to stay on the bottom of a tank. I LOVE food, and I'm a big beggar. I eat commercial turtle pellets, fruit, and an occasional insect or piece of plain cooked meat as a treat. However, I HATE to be held, and I bite HARD despite my size. I'd really like an underwater cave or similar as a hiding spot in my tank. Artificial silk plants work for hide spots, too. Steps made from an egg crate light diffuser could be made to give me more climbing room without taking away water space.

I'll need a heat light and UVB light over my basking area, and a water filter for the water. If the room doesn't get below 70F at night, I won't need a water heater. My hind nails need to be clipped once or twice a year because they overgrow, but it's easy to to do with regular human clippers. My front nails NEVER need to be clipped.

I come with a no trade, no sale, no breeding adoption contract, and a small jar of the pellets I'm used to eating in foster care. NO SHIPPING. Local pick-up only in Baltimore, Timonium, or Parkton, MD. I CANNOT be adopted to PA residents. If you'd like to adopt me, please email matts_adoptions@hotmail.com and INCLUDE YOUR CITY and STATE in the subject line.
