Grissom's Story

Grissom is a 23 year old albino grey rat snake that was surrendered to us in October 2025.

In our care, he received surgery on an abscess that wasn’t able to clear with injectable antibiotics and has been doing fantastic since. He will always have a lump of scar tissue at the site due to the skin growing around the infected tissue and agitation of tissue for the removal.

He also has a small lipoma (fat collection) under his chin that will require regular monitoring to ensure it doesn’t grow but so far it has not in our care and does not effect his day to day activities or quality of life in the slightest.

He eats well on adult mice, small rats, quail, day old chicks, whole quail eggs, and has even tried frog legs. He has no complaints about variety!

Our vet has given him the go-ahead to be adopted, but we want to remind everyone that reptiles, especially the seniors, should be receiving at minimum yearly check ups and year-round health monitoring. It is non-negotiable for his adopter to have the attention to detail and financial means to have him seen for these exams going forward due to professional monitoring being needed for his lumps and bumps.
