Cadbury's Story

Meet Cadbury! This sweet one-year-old New Zealand is available for adoption and ready to find his forever home. He may be a little shy at first, but once he warms up, his gentle personality and sharp mind are hard to resist. If you are looking for a thoughtful, quiet companion with plenty of heart, Cadbury just might be your guy. Red-Eyed White (REW) rabbits are among the smartest of all rabbit breeds. They learn quickly, can recognize their name, follow commands, and even be taught tricks. In addition to their intelligence, they tend to have fewer health issues than many fancy breeds, avoiding common ear and dental problems. If that's not enough, REWs are also known for their cleanliness and are typically very diligent about using the litter box.

?
A REW ("red-eyed white" or "ruby-eyed white") is a white rabbit with red or pinkish eyes. Their eye color comes from a lack of pigment, which makes their pupils appear red due to the reflection of light from the blood vessels in their eyes.

?
REW refers to any white rabbit with red eyes, regardless of breed. Some rabbits inherit this coloring through genetics, but two common REW breeds often found in rescues are the Florida White and the New Zealand rabbit. Florida Whites are smaller, typically around 5 lbs, while New Zealands can weigh over 10 lbs and are frequently raised for meat production.

, ?
Despite their wonderful personalities, REWs are often overlooked. Many are bred for meat and either escape captivity or are abandoned by people who weren't prepared for the commitment of rabbit care. Sadly, they also tend to be adopted more slowly because they are not perceived as "cute" as other breeds. Even though they are affectionate, intelligent, and make amazing companions, some REWs stay in rescues for years waiting for a loving home.

-----
Our rabbits live in private foster homes—please contact us to make an appointment to visit!

Think this rabbit may be a good fit for your single bun? Our rescue also offers bonding services for eligible single bunnies.

Not sure if a rabbit is right for your home? Fostering is a great way to learn about rabbit care or see if a particular rabbit is a good fit for you. We provide the start-up materials and education; apply on our website!

Prepare your home with the proper supplies for a house rabbit; see our recomendaitons here: www.respectforrabbits.org/shop.

Southwest Florida House Rabbit Rescue's Adoption Policy
We will ask you to fill out an adoption application and have an initial phone interview. We will then set up a time for you to meet some rabbits that might be a good fit for your family, home, and lifestyle. We will request photos of the space within your home where the rabbit will reside and arrange for a short home visit where one of our volunteers will provide a Bunny 101 training. This sets you up for success with your new rabbit friend! Rabbits are not a low maintenance pet and require a 10-14 year commitment. When given the proper environment, they are quiet, fun, and very loving. They make great companions! You'll notice most of our rabbits are adopted as bonded pairs. Rabbits are highly social and need companionship to keep them healthy and from getting lonely. As human companions, we can only offer them so much. We find having two rabbits is not any more work than one and they are tons of fun to watch together as well! Our adoption fee is $100 for a single or $150 for a bonded pair. All our rabbits are spayed/neutered and litter box trained. Our rescue does not have a main shelter and instead operates out of a network of foster homes throughout Southwest Florida. We can arrange a day for you to visit one of our homes to meet several rabbits of interest to you.
