Meet Cherokee
Cherokee is a sweet female beagle mix with the traditional tri-color markings. The vet estimates that she was born March 22 of this year.
Cherokee and what we think are her 5 siblings were brought to a West Virginia shelter by a person who said they were found on his property. Cherokee is going to be a smaller dog, as she only weighs 14.5 pounds at 5 months.
She likes people and children, but can be weary of younger children at first if they are loud, but is fine afterward getting to know them. She has been around a few kids several times. She gets along with other dogs, the dogs in the foster home range from 24 to 45 pounds and she has no problems wrestling with them. It is unknown how she would do with cats.
She does well on car rides and walks well on an expandable lead, although zig-zagging to catch all the smells. .
Cherokee is food driven and loves peanut butter as well as Milk Bone treats. Cherokee likes to be close to her person, took a couple of weeks before she wanted to stay outside if I wasn’t outside. Now she, her brother Dakota, and the foster’ beagle will play outside on their own. Cherokee is not much of a barker, especially considering she is a beagle. She likes to cuddle on your lap and be near you.
Cherokee is crate trained, and is working on house training, but still having accidents. Her activity level is just about average. She sleeps through the night in her crate (10:00 to 6:00) without protest. Cherokee would do best with a fenced yard as she loves to wonder around stiffing and playing in the flower beds or high grass.
All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. If you are interested in any of our pets, you must complete an online dog adoption application at www.rescueAhart.org .
