Meet Max
Meet Max! Max is a 3 yr old Dalmatian/Great Dane Mix. He is a bundle of energy but also loves to snuggle on your lap and watch the world go by. Max is DEAF and needs a loving, patient family that will be able to handle his special needs and medical concerns and continue his training. He has been to obedience classes and has already mastered several commands and phrases in sign language! Max is very playful, quick to learn, and eager to please.
He loves to run but has not learned recall yet, so a fenced in yard would be preferred. Max is most comfortable being with people and would do best in a home where someone is around all the time, and would love a doggy sibling. Though Max is good with dogs (both large and small) with proper introductions, he does have a prey drive and needs to go to a home without cats or other small animals. Max is affectionate and often uses his mouth to communicate his emotions and needs. Because of this and because of his high energy level, Max would do best around older dog-respectful kids.
Max is on a specific food diet for URINARY STONES (unknown if acute or chronic condition) and may have skin allergies (unknown if food- or environmental-related).
Max needs an experienced family that will be able to work with his ANXIETY, which at times leads to destructive behavior, frequent accidents in the house, constant barking, jumping on people, and rough mouthing on hands and arms. Max will run away if off-leash, has a history of slipping collars/harnesses, and is also quick at escaping through open doors. He needs regular exercise and attention (more than a short walk on leash); he would make a great jogging companion. Max is very curious and smart but can also be stubborn. He has a very gentle nature and loves cuddling on the couch. He is food-motivated and will counter-surf and open cupboards to find any source of food. Max does not do well with crate-confinement and does best with free run of the home.
Max is available at the Saratoga County Animal Shelter. If interested, please submit an application for adoption to krussell@saratogacountyny.gov or fax to 518-885-2570. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE. All applications will be reviewed. Potential adopters will be contacted if deemed a suitable match.
Interested in lending a helping hand but cannot make a long-term commitment? Fostering Max is also an option. If interested in fostering only, please submit an application to krussell@saratogacountyny.gov or fax to 518-885-2570 and indicate "foster" at the top of the application.
