Smiley Border Collie Mix Sioux City, IA

When I got the call from a shelter about 3 dogs that needed moved, I immediately went to help. It was a mom and her two pups that had been abandoned by their owner and were living down by a river. As time passed they started coming into the residential area where they were not welcome. That's when they were picked up by their local animal control. When I got to the shelter, I instantly knew we would not be leaving without them. The mom had something wrong with her back leg which caused her to drag her paw, the tips of her toes are gone. She was covered in large ticks and was very nervous. As I approached her she bared her teeth but yet wanted to approach me in a gentle way. After sitting down and letting her come to me I realized it was a nervous smile. That's when I named her Smiley. She is a 3 year old border collie mix (best guess). I took her to the vet and x-rays revealed that she had a bullet, we think from a 45 caliber gun, lodged above her knee. Her veterinarian feels it had been there for 2 to 3 months. She was not only taking care of her injury but also puppies at the same time. Smiley is going to make a phenomenal dog for somebody. She likes people of all ages, doesn’t mind the cats but a slow introduction with other dogs is a must. She doesn’t like a high energy dog, but is fine with other mellow dogs. She is house broke, and walks good on a leash. If you raise your voice she will come over slowly wagging her tail as if to tell you it’s OK. Don’t mind the nervous smile as the motto goes... never let them see you sweat. Smiley is spayed, current on her vaccinations and micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $135.
