Lolita Russian Lassie Shepherd & Collie Mix New York, NY

2Y 37lbs Lolita is a Russian Shepherd with a hint of Collie in her breed mix, truly a stunning combo.
Rescuer told us:. I found Lolita in August 2018 in the town of Tsarevo, Bulgaria. She lived on the streets. I fed her for several weeks and then I was told that, as soon as the tourist season ends, all the stray animals in the town we're to be exterminated. With that, I decided to save Lolita. I took her to a local animal sanctuary since I couldn't take Lolita right away due to procedures needed to move her out of the country. In the sanctuary Lolita was vaccinated, spayed and prepared for the trip. Then I made a return trip to Bulgaria and brought Lolita to Russia. Currently, Lolita lives in a temporary home and is waiting her permanent one. She's a very positive and reasonable dog. Despite her slim body type, she is a very good eater.
Peculiarities, Temper, Behavior.
Lolita is an awesome dog! Lively, bright and very friendly.
She loves her walks and enjoys the company of people of all ages.
She very much enjoys belly rubs while laying on the grass with all four legs up in the air.
Lolita is absolutely friendly to other dogs. She's not entirely happy to share her treats and will show her displeasure in a quiet growl that never escalates and it happens infrequently, mostly after a long, tiring walk. Otherwise, she is a super positive and good-natured dog.
Lolita can't tolerate confined space. So no crate for her--She'll get scared and attempt to break free.
Lolita is a fabulous choice as a family dog. Please apply asap.

All our dogs are in NY/NJ area generally and can be adopted out of state depending on where, we prefer to meet our adopters but occasionally transport can be arranged.

Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays and Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.

Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!
