Meet Atticus Finch

Meet Atticus Finch!

Like his namesake, Atticus Finch is wise, patient, and forgiving. Despite being abandoned outside in the winter with no front claws--and later being hit by a car and having his leg broken--this handsome senior cat continues to love every person he meets. Now fully recovered from his leg injury, Atticus will love you even more if you (1) don't mind him following you around the house, just to make sure he doesn't miss out on anything, (2) allow him to curl up on your lap or to climb up on your chest, gaze into your eyes, and rub his head on your face, and (3) get out his favorite toy now and then and watch him adorably chase his prey.

But never fear--if you are sometimes too busy for this, Atticus will not hold it against you. Even when he was confined to a crate for months while recovering from surgery to repair his broken leg, this sweet, patient boy barely complained. He will be content lying near you on the couch or in a soft cat bed. Atticus is equally loving and independent. Although he prefers to be with his human, he does fine at home by himself when necessary.

Atticus is as entertaining as he is sweet. He loves to talk, and he has more than one voice. There's the silent meow when he sees you from a distance and just wants you to know that he's thinking about you. Then he has his tiny "hmmm" grunt that he repeats when he knows you're coming toward him and he starts to get excited. Finally, there's his adorable low-pitched crackly meow, which is impossible to resist. Atticus also loves to play. He has the most adorable technique when chasing toys ... he puts his head to the ground and sweeps the floor with his front legs. Often his foster mom just ends up laughing at him, dropping the toy, and picking him up because he's so darn cute.

Not only does Atticus like being picked up, he will let you hold him like a baby or carry him on your hip like a toddler, with his back legs around your waist. During his confinement and recovery period, he had to get used to being carried or lying on his foster mom's lap while she worked. He adapted like a champ. Now that he has full walking privileges again, he loves exploring the house and jumping up into windowsills. He has retained a slight stiffness in his affected back leg, but he shows no signs of discomfort and needs no further treatment at this point.

Atticus has a very mild case of entropion, in which the eyelid of one of his eye is slightly inverted. This condition results in some discharge from his eyes, but he is very patient with having any discharge or crustiness gently wiped with a soft cloth. He has seen an ophthalmologist, who has determined that his condition is not severe enough to warrant treatment currently.

We think that Atticus would prefer to be the center of attention as an only cat, but with proper introductions, he would be willing to share your love with another mild-mannered and calm cat. We haven't seen him with a dog, but we suspect he might get along with a cat-friendly canine as well. Atticus is one of the sweetest cats his foster mom has ever known. He just wants a forever home where he can give and receive lots of love. Maybe that home is yours!
