Meet Davis

Davis a very unique almost 8yr old GSP. He is being returned to the rescue due to his new family having a baby coming and worried they won't have enough time to exercise him. He does okay with kids in the house, but would probably like it better in a quite home without kids. He can be protective of his owner and this has lead to him chasing people running through his property (they live on the trail system in town). This seems to be more of a protective thing for him, as he it is few and far between incidences.
He was originally transferred to the rescue back in Summer of 2019 from another rescue for some one on one attention and training. He was a stray in UT. He was then adopted in 08/2019.

He does not do well with cats. He does well with other dogs, particularly females. He is dominant, so a submissive male would be okay too. He has been known to jump fences, but I have a 5-6 foot wood fence and he will stand up against it, but I have trained him not to do that, so he pretty much avoids the fence. I presume if left unattended outside he would get bored and if unattended he will find a way to entertain himself, so like any other GSP will need lots of exercise. He is very birdy.

His re-training is complete! He is recall trained with an e-collar, he does great about checking back in when out on the trails. He knows: come, here, sit, kennel, load up, gentle, go lay down, and wait.

He otherwise tends to keep to himself. I think he would do fine as a second companion or an only dog. He also is protective of his food with other dogs being around or approaching his dish, which is fairly normal for a rescue, especially dogs that have a history of being a stray. Since there are so many dogs in the rescue currently, he kennels up and eats great in his kennel and waits till all others are done and food bowls are picked up.

He is very birdie, not sure if he has been hunted over, but I think would probably make a great hunting partner as he has a high prey drive. He caught a bird hiking and brought it right to my hand!
