Meet Chief

Chief is a 48 pound neutered mixed breed male who just turned a year old. It has been suggested that he may be an Aussie/Hound mix. His fur has a little fluff to it and is VERY soft. He is a little skinny, and he has very large paws, so he likely has some more growing to do. Chief is up to date on his vaccines as well as flea and tick and heartworm preventives. Chief came to Purple PAWS from southern Kansas. His previous owner moved and left him with a relative who became unable to care for him anymore. Don’t let his resting grump face in some of his pictures fool you. Chief is a loving, playful boy who still acts very much like an energetic puppy. He is quite clumsy (so he needs strict supervision around small children and adults with mobility issues), but he is working very hard on his manners, kennel, and potty training in his foster home. He is very food motivated and has already mastered “sit” and is working on “stay” and “lay down”. He walks very well on a leash, and enjoys running and playing with toys. He is also very proud of his ability to make birds fly and bunnies run away! He tolerates his kennel, but he has no qualms about using his big hound voice to let you know that he misses you when he hears you leave. For this reason, an apartment setting would not be his ideal home. His ideal home would have a fenced yard where he can do his morning zoomies, and neighbors who don’t mind hearing his opinions every now and then. He needs an active family who can play with him, as well as a patient family who can socialize him and continue to help him learn his manners. He would do best in a home where he is the only dog or with low energy dogs who ignore his puppy antics. He has not been tested with cats. Apply at Purple-Paws.org. The adoption fee is $200-this help cover vaccinations, preventatives, and spay/neuters.
