Meet Chester

Meet Chester! This senior, barrel-chested boy (10-years-old/17-pounds) was brought into a shelter, when his owners couldn't keep him. The staff reported that he was in pretty rough shape.
Now in foster, Chester is a happy go-lucky guy! Like most Doxies, Chester has an affinity for being snuggled up and cozy. When he's ready to relax, he loves nothing more than being covered up with blankets and burrowing in for a good nap.
Chester is an easy dog to have in the home as he's already housebroken and friendly with other dogs and cats.
Chester has a moderate energy level and enjoys going for walks. He walks nicely on a leash, and doesn't need to go too far to be satisfied. An avid member of the Neighborhood Watch Committee, Chester likes to keep tabs on what the neighbors are doing when he can watch out the window, and monitors the activity of all the squirrels and bunnies in the neighborhood when he's out sniffing in the backyard.
Chester loves to chew on bones, and play with small stuffed toys-especially if they've got a squeaker in them.

On 4/4/19, Chester tested positive for heartworm disease. He got this by being bitten by an infected mosquito. He is not contagious to other dogs (but all dogs should be on heartworm prevention monthly, year-round to prevent infection/reinfection). Underdog has started Chester on treatment for heartworm, and with proper after-care, he will fully recover. His adopter will simply need to bring Chester to scheduled treatment appointments and keep him CALM (with strict crate rest or supervised relaxation) post treatment injections (for 2-3 months). We provide adopters with instructions and will cover needed meds. Dogs who are treated for heartworm have a positive likelihood of recovery when post-treatment instructions and rest are followed

Deworming
Heartworm and Flea/Tick Preventative
Any other necessary medical treatment as recommended by veterinarian
