Meet Clover

*******************************

Clover is looking for her forever family! Clover came into a high kill shelter in Louisiana with the odds stacked against her. The shelter was full and she was a shy, dark colored dog with skin issues. There was very little chance she would make it out alive. Thankfully, she was noticed by a local rescue group, PAWS of NELA, and she was moved into a local foster home. Over the next several months, Clover, as she was one lucky pup, was treated for her skin, heartworms, spayed, and vaccinated. She is now healthy and happy and ready for her new home. She is estimated to be around 2 years old and weighs 40#. She has an adorable scruffy coat that is low shedding so we think she is a Standard Schnauzer mix.

Her foster family says she is great with everyone she meets. She never meets a stranger and thinks the world is there to pet her. She has been in foster care with a 7-year-old child, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. She gets along with everyone! One of the cats is her best friend and they are often seen rubbing on each other’s faces. Clover is house trained and crate trained. She will sit and look at you and cry or bark when she needs to go out. She does go in a crate, but she doesn't like to be left alone in one. She gets a little destructive when left alone in it. She does best when we leave, to be left in our laundry room with the other dogs. She likes the company and would do best with a family that is either home a good bit, or is she has a canine companion to keep her company.

Clover is very active, but also knows how to relax. She would do great as a running partner, hiking partner, anything outdoors. She LOVES to go in the car! Her mind is always working, and if there is something she wants, she will figure out how to get it. She does not get on the furniture unless asked and as soon as you are done petting her, she gets off. We have been working on her wait for the door, because she will bolt out (towards the car) if she knows you are leaving. She does know sit, sit up, come, fetch, and stay (mostly). She loves to eat and is highly treat motivated. She has never shown signs of guarding food or toys but will move away if the other dogs get close. She has never shown any aggression towards people of any type. I wouldn't say she loves a bath, but she doesn't fight it or try to get away. She stands very nicely and will even jump in the tub when asked. Clover is a leash puller when she is excited. She would do best with someone that can keep her close. I wouldn't suggest elderly or children holding her leash. She has never shown signs of being fearful of loud noises or storms. We have noticed that if she gets bored, she will find something to entertain herself. That usually includes chewing. We have lost a couple toothbrushes to her, a toothpaste tube, a plastic dog bowl, and a cup. This has only happened when she was left alone in the bathroom after a bath. She has never chewed anything while we were with her or when she was with the other dogs.

Clover is an awesome dog and will be a great part of her new family. She would do great with an active family that spends time outdoors. She loves to play with kids, and they would have a great friend. She loves attention and wants to be part of the family!

Clover is spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and current on heartworm/flea/tick prevention. Upon rescue, she did test positive for heartworm but she has completed treatment and is now heartworm free and ready to travel to her forever home!
