Meet Gus

Gus is almost a 11yr old German Wirehair Pointer. He came to us from Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter in Bozeman, MT. He was an owner surrender because his family could no longer care for him. He is really a happy go-lucky guy that just wants to play fetch!

He is fitting right in here at Paws to Peaks. He is great on and off leash, has amazing recall, LOVES to play fetch, and has free roam of the house while I am at work and does great, although he does have some separation anxiety. He is neutered and up to date on vaccines.

He does not do well in kennels, we believe he was stuck in a kennel for long hours as he has a sore on his stomach from laying on a hard surface for hours at a time. His canine teeth are also ground down, most likely from trying to chew his way out of the kennel. He does have some fatty (lipoma) tumors on his belly as well that the vet is not concerned about. They can be removed surgically if desired. Even though his terrible history with kennels, in less than a week with the rest of the dogs at the rescue, he now loads up into the truck on his own and is usually the first to load up, as he now knows that means he isn't being left behind... AND he gets to go do something fun! I have a bed that sits in front of the kennels and he likes it there in the back of the truck, over being in the cab.

A major part of his re-training will be being comfortable around strangers.

His knee does bother him from time to time, but still will run to play fetch and load up into the truck. Vet assumes he has a partial torn ACL based on X-rays and range of motion and fluid build up.

He is looking for his forever home, would do well as an only dog or with another dog that likes to play fetch with him, he shares well. He would do best with someone that is home a lot and his minimal visitors as he gets nervous.
