Harley Canaan Dog Mix New York, NY

In August 2018, a Canaan Dog named Harley was rescued in Amman, Jordan after being tied on a chain leash for 2 years (he is 2.5 years old). A brave rescuer cut him loose and took him to the vet, and provided temporary sanctuary for him.

Harley had to learn how to be a "normal dog" after his harrowing experience. He received extensive training in Jordan, and arrived in NYC in mid-November, where he is doing remarkably well. He is healthy and weighs around 36-40 lbs (a bit small for a Canaan Dog).

The best home for Harley would have:
1. Someone who is not out of the house more than a few hours a day. Harley is high energy and has to wear himself out in order to rest comfortably, and that should be done in anticipation of him being left alone.
OR
A home that already has a couple of dogs in it, so that Harley won't be lonely if his human leaves for a few hours every day.
2. A home that either has a fenced-in yard so that Harley can play or is near a dog park, as Harley is very social with other dogs and active, and it physically and mentally benefits him to have access to an enclosed area, especially if there are other dogs in that space.
3. Someone who is active (running, hiking, etc.) OR someone who has other dogs who can absorb Harley's energy and also stimulate him when he feels restless.
4. An adopter who seeks to have a close connection with their dog, as Harley aims to please, is very loyal, and wants very much to feel loved and secured.
He is very human-oriented, and loves attention.
5. Cats are OKAY! He likes cats and respects their space and loves to observe them. He can even be in a bedroom with a cat without bothering the cat at all, he will just enjoy the cat's company.
