Drifter Pekingese & Papillon Mix Fort Leavenworth, KS

This sweet old boy came into us as a stray but was never claimed. This little guy may be a "senior" but he has a lot of love yet to give. The vet thinks he is about 11 years old. He came in quite thin but is now in really good condition and thriving at his foster home.

He had surgery to remove a bum eye Aug. 27 and has been relaxing in foster care, waiting for his new family. Please call/email to meet him!

He doesn't seem keen on having canine siblings -- he has snapped at the docile pup in his foster home (the dog just ignores him and there are no issues) and he wasn't friendly with the dogs in a potential home, so we are thinking, maybe just because he is old and half blind and thus a bit defensive or because it is his true preference, that he might do best as the only dog in his new home.

We think Drifter would do well in a home with a single person or with a family with older children who know to respect his quirks/diminished senses (like not sneaking up on him, knowing when to just leave him alone). He would probably also do best as an only pet or with maybe a cat that just leaves him alone.

He loves to follow his foster mom around the house all day, and once he has claimed his spot on the bed, he is there to stay. Mostly he just wants a peaceful life with someone who loves him. This low maintenance fellow pretty much just likes to sniff around while on a walk/outing, and he gets his daily puppytime/workout/playtime knocked out in about 30 seconds.
