READ MORE ABOUT BOGEY

Bogey is a handsome, sweet and loving, soon to be 6 year old Australian Labradoodle boy surrendered to DRC by another rescue along with his litter mate brother Chip. He is medium-sized (only 42 lbs.) and he has a soft, mixed wool/fleece coat that will require frequent grooming. The boys had been through a lot before they found their way to DRC and their story should serve as yet another example of how Doodle dogs are exploited for profit and how they so often, end up in the wrong hands. Thankfully, Bogey and Chip’s story will have a happy ending.

The brothers came to DRC under emergent circumstances via another rescue organization that had hastily placed them in what turned out to be an inappropriate adoptive home. We were told by the rescue organization that the brothers needed to be "placed together." We came to find out that in reality, the complete opposite was in fact true and the boys really needed to be separated for the good of both. Chip has since found his forever home and is doing amazingly well. Bogey who has been in a separate foster home for several months now and like his brother Chip, is also doing amazingly well, is now ready for his “furever" home and family.

Bogey and Chip were purchased as pups by an elderly couple with no prior dog experience. They were purchased from a disreputable backyard “breeder” who knew better than to sell litter-mates together to the same owner but did so anyway out of greed. And so Bogey and his brother Chip went off to live with the elderly couple who due to health and age-related issues, inadvertantly prevented the boys from being exposed to the outside world and from becoming socialized to other people and dogs. We saw immediately, that despite coexisting in the same household, the boys were not bonded and displayed typical litter-mate related “issues” we so often see in cases were siblings are inappropriately kept together. Issues that are normal, are related to pack order established from birth and that cannot be averted or changed in spite of the best efforts of humans. In a nutshell, Bogey being the more laid back and submissive dog of the two brothers, spent most of his life being bullied by his more demonstrative and more insecure brother. DRC learned that the issues were allegedly “managed” by the elderly couple up until the man passed away suddenly and his wife was then forced to relocate to an assisted living situation. That’s when the brothers found themselves left in the hands of a well intentioned, but overwhelmed “rescue.” Traumatized by the loss of their original home and people, the boys ended up being placed together into in an inappropriate home situation without first being properly evaluated. That’s when DRC was contacted for assistance and Bogey and his brother came into the DRC rescue program.

Mr. Bogey’s foster momma reports that he is a very special, angel boy. A true ALD as far as his personality and temperament, Bogey is an extremely smart, emotionally intelligent, intuitive, loving, sensitive and vocal little man. Out of sorts when he first arrived in foster care, it quickly became apparent that Bogey and his brother lived a somewhat sheltered life with their elderly, previous owners. Bogey is extremely friendly and people oriented and loves climbing up on to your lap for some loving and snuggles. He so wants to please and attach. While he tolerates other dogs outside of the home, he would prefer to be the only dog in the home. He is "a talker” and we recently discovered, he is also a “howler.” His howl is mournfully melodic and he’ll turn it on for your listening pleasure if you happen to be trying to get out the door without him. He does seem to have some anticipatory separation woes but other than his harmonious howl, does not act out in any way while home on his own awaiting your return. His talking can sound "growly" but he doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body and is just letting you know of his complaint of the moment. All things in his background considered, Bogey is a remarkably resilient boy who really needs to find his special someone. That special someone will be a dog/Doodle savvy person or couple who will take the time to get to know him, understand him, and embrace and appreciate all of his little quirks and nuances. This gorgeous guy just needs to be someone’s baby, showered with lots of love, praise, positive reinforcement and reassurances and provided with guidance and the sense of security he was so sadly deprived of in his original home.

Bogey has impeccable potty and basic obedience manners, but we were sad to discover that he had no idea what to do with toys when he first arrived. We don't really know if he had ever been exposed to toys before arriving in foster care. Of course, now given the opportunity to indulge, he has discovered the joy of playtime with objects. He loves car rides! But he does need help getting into the car. We call it an "air-lift."

Bogey is accustomed to being allowed on furniture and having the run of the house and only homes that allow dogs on furniture will be considered. He is a WONDERFUL and special boy who just needs an equally special home and person of his very own.

Bogey will need a calm, quiet environment and an active, dog-savvy, ADULY ONLY home with a yard surrounded by a physical fence at least 4 feet in height where someone is around for at least part of the day. He is neutered, UTD on all shots and preventatives, is completely house-trained. Bogey will be a wonderful addition to the right family.

You must be prepared for your dog to be an inside member of your family.
In most cases, a PHYSICAL FENCE IS REQUIRED in order to be considered for a DRC rescue doodle.

DRC Adoption donations typically range from: $300 - $600 and vary according to the age, health, temperament and location of each dog. Every doodle is an individual and every doodle has his/her own specific needs and requirements. Adopters are selected based on compatibility, NOT on a "first come, first serve basis. At no time does DRC ever put the desires of applicants before or above the needs and requirements of rescue doodles in our program.
