Meet Bruno

BRUNO was a street dog that was roaming around El Arrayàn Restaurant area in Puerto Vallarta. He started coming into the restaurant. Staff & owners started feeding him and petting him every time he came in. Bruno kept coming to the restaurant, for over 4 months, almost daily. Until one evening when he was VERY sick and could not get up. He spent the night at the restaurant and was taken to Mascotas vet the following morning. Bruno was underweight, lots of fleas & ticks, some areas of his skin had damage, especially around the hip area. One eye had discharge and redness, penis area discharge & swollen and very long, overgrown nails. Bruno was in rough shape and thankfully he knew where to go for help. Carmen and Claudia who own El Arrayan are wonderful rescuers and never say no to an animal in need. Bruno tested positive for TVT, which is a venereal disease completely treatable and cured with chemotherapy.
Bruno has come a long way since being in a safe and loving home. Hes learning to walk on a leash, hes learning what its like to live in a home with people who care and love him, and hes even learning to live with felines. When walking on leash, he is generally good, sometimes when crossing paths with other males or medium /large dogs , might pull, growl or bark out of excitement. But will continue walking fine after some correction. There are 3 cats, looks at them, cries a little, might bark at them, bit has never chased one. Because Bruno has never known love, he can be a bit jealous when his humans pay attention to other dogs. This is easily trainable to dog savvy people. Bruno loves all humans and his foster home is working with him and his excitement and energy as he likes to jump on people, so his next forever family will need to continue this training, and also enrol with him in obedience classes:)
Because BRUNO spent a lot of time on the streets, he is very smart and loves pleasing humans. He loves cuddling and showing his belly for petting. Gives hugs too. He is a total love bug and generally loves all the dogs that he is around. He is used to going for a good 45, minutes’ walk in the morning. Will go for another 45 min walk after dinner when it cools down. Bruno is great for hikes, walks, playing in the park. Because he is anxious with food, we do keep an eye on him when he is feeding. When he finishes he goes to the other dog’s plates. We don’t let him do that the other dogs might not like it.
We are trying to sit him down before feeding him. So that he is calm when he get his food. If there is any other food around counters, or cat food or anything he might be able to reach, he will reach and jump up to get it. Watch where you leave food around the kitchen. The less food around, the better. He is currently eating no grain, high protein kibble, mixed with some fresh raw food that contains veggies. He can eat a lot at once, but PLEASE do not overfeed.
We saw how Bruno became super ill while still on the streets. Now we have seen Bruno feel better, eat better, play, roll on the grass, and being generally a very happy dog. He is the kind of dog that will be forever grateful for being off the streets and having a forever loving family to call his own. Bruno is now healthy and ready for adoption. Hes currently 5 years old and 22kg. To add him to your family, please submit an application for him at www.mexpup.com
