Meet Belle is a Cancer Survivor!
8-10-18 UPDATE: Our cancer warrior Belle had her monthly check-up with her oncologist this morning. The doctor said she looks great, and best of all, she is still in remission! We are so thrilled with this news.
We’re still hoping that someone will offer Belle a retirement/hospice home. She is such a lovely girl, and an easy keeper, really. Her blindness and history of cancer may seem daunting, but Belle truly is no trouble. She’s mellow and easygoing and a joy to have around. It would be so nice if she could be part of a true family instead of “just” a foster dog.
*****ORIGINAL POST*****
After five long months, our sweet Belle has completed her weekly chemo treatments and she is now cancer-free!!!!
Belle’s oncologist says she has responded beautifully to her lymphoma treatment, and she is currently in remission. We know that her type of cancer almost always comes back eventually, but we are hopeful that she will have a good year of health and vitality before she may have to deal with lymphoma again. Because Belle is a fairly young dog (she’s only 6-7 years), we are hoping that maybe she will defy the odds and live for very long time.
It’s now time for us to find a forever family for Belle. It will take special person who can handle Belle’s blindness and also understand that her time on earth is limited. We are looking for someone who lives in or near the Atlanta area so that Belle can always be close to her doctors at Saint Francis Veterinary Specialists. Although she is quite stable and healthy at the moment, this is a “hospice” situation. We want any potential adopter to be very clear in understanding that.
Aside from her blindness, Belle is actually a fairly easy keeper. She gets along well with other animals (dogs and cats) and is fine with older kids (no babies or toddlers who might startle her inadvertently, please). She is crate-trained and housebroken. Although she has no eyes, Belle’s nose works beautifully and she loves exploring inside her securely fenced back yard. Belle loves going on walks and sprawling out on the sofa for a long nap afterwards. She has a sweet, spunky personality and is a lot of fun to have around. The way we see it, Belle is *living* with a cancer diagnosis — not dying. Please help us find a family who will make the coming months (hopefully maybe even years!) Belle’s best ones yet.
For more information about adopting Belle, please complete our online adoption application at www.sohfga.com.
Belle is fully vetted -- spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and current on vaccinations and deworming. The adoption fee is $200 (cash only, please). You can apply to adopt by submitting an application at www.sohfga.com. We hold adoptions at Petco in Snellville from 12-4 PM every Saturday. You must have an *approved* adoption application on file in order to be considered for this particular pet.
