Parker is a happy, upbeat, 24 lb. Terrier mix rescued from the Animal Friends of the Valley Shelter. He walks around with a big smile on his face. We think he is a Tibetan terrier mix, but his tail looks very Pomeranian-like (but Tibetans also have tails as such). He could even be mixed with Corgi, since he is low to the ground. The shelter marked him as age four, but the rescue vet stated, based on his teeth, he seemed closer to age three. Parker is low to the ground, with a cute terrier face, but has a coat similar to a Golden Retriever that needs to be brushed, including his tail. He will not need regular professional grooming, but he will need some brushing and bathing to keep his coat bright and soft, and an occasional spa day would make him shine. Parker is a very cute, shaggy type dog! He tends to look smaller in photos, but Parker has a medium dog feel. Because Parker is still under the 25 lb. mark, he still goes into the "small dog category," but Parker is a great sized dog, not too small for people who actually want a sturdier dog.

Parker is affectionate, loves to give kisses, and likes to be included in whatever is going on. For example, during story time with the kids, Parker jumped up on the bed to hang out and listen in! Parker is sometimes playful; he can get the “zoomies” and run around, or play with another dog at the rescue, but he can also play with various toys and entertain himself. On the other hand, Parker is also content to chill out and just be near you. His energy level is low to moderate. He is not overly active, not pushy, but sometimes shows a stubborn streak, figuring that his idea for what is fun might be better than what you need him to do at that moment.

Parker is an inherently good dog that is adult friendly, kid friendly, dog friendly, cat friendly, and fairly easy to manage. He walks well on the leash and learns new things quickly. He is potty-trained and crate-trained (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment). We, at the rescue, crate all dogs for eating, sleeping, and when folks are away from home, (it is mainly for structure and safety), and Parker does well there, but he is not a big fan of the crate, infinitely preferring to sleep with you! Like all dogs, he responds well to a routine and some consistency in his day to day.

Parker is an easy dog and a friendly guy! He is not destructive in the house and is overall quiet, but he did bolt out the front door once at a foster’s, and ran up the street. He is NOT an escape artist; he just did not realize that it was NOT OK for him to run out and have an adventure, so anyone adopting him would need to reinforce “stay” at the door.

Parker is a pretty versatile dog that can adapt to several different environments. Obviously, it is always nice when there is another dog in the home to keep a dog company when folks are at work, or gone from home, so another dog would be great! He can also be an only dog in the home, if he will not be alone for extended hours on a daily basis. NOTE: We only adopt dogs as primarily INDOOR dogs no matter the size. Dogs can go outside to play, potty, to sun themselves at will, but should never be excluded to an outside area. We really appreciate when people take the time to set house manners and boundaries, instead of always having dogs outside. You do not need to give a dog the run of the entire house, and a crate is good for a transitional phase. Doggie doors are a plus but not required.

Parker is neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped.
