Meet Oliver *Adopted!*
Foster Parent Report -
Oliver is a great senior dog. He was a parent surrender due to health reasons the owner can no longer take care of him. He was very loved and has so much more love to give you. In his foster home, Oliver spends time with another small dog who he seems to not even pay attention to. He does very well in an apartment setting, with barking only when someone is at the door, and he’s quick to be corrected. Oliver does not seem to bark when left alone. Weary of males, it does take him longer to warm up to them, with slow movements and a gentle demeanor. So he may be better suited for a female. When he first arrived, Oliver barked at any man and now has warmed up to the ones he sees regularly, but is still cautious and seems to ignore those on our walks.
Oliver loves going outside but for only little bits. He gets very excited when you take him for a walk, but he’s a little, older dog so short walks seem to be his preference. He takes a while to get use to his route, but once the fear is gone (and if there are no squirrels), he’s actually a really great walker with very minimal pulling.
Oliver seems to be pretty good at signaling when he needs to go outside to use the bathroom, and is semi pee-pad trained. However he is currently being crated at night to help stop accidents on the floor.
Oliver seems to take no notice of the other dog in the house and is willing to share affection, however I do not know how he would be with cats. That said, he seems to mirror the personality of the dogs in his presence. If they bark, he’ll bark. If they’re aggressive, he’s aggressive. So he is only well suited to be with other dogs if they are good and calm.
He does not like to be picked up in any way, and if you plan on sleeping with him, I’d suggest pet stairs or a pet ramp. It took a little while to warm up to the pet steps, but now he will wait at the bottom of them for me to give him permission to climb up on the bed.
Ollie has made great strides while here, from not coming out of his kennel to cuddling up with me on the couch and bed. He likes to lay next to your thigh and lean against you. He loves to lick both himself or your hand but thankfully never licks my ticklish feet! He went through a phase of resource guarding with his food but with a little patience we have beat that!
Oliver is a great dog and will make the right person the perfect companion. He is low energy, quiet and just wants to spend time near you. The perfect companion for someone who can love him the rest of his life.
