Meet Summit

Summit is a quiet and well-behaved 18 month old English Setter boy.  He is friendly with dogs, good-natured and learning to trust people.  He’s looking for a home with a loving family -- possibly an active older couple or a large loving family who can share with him the joys of people, home and family life.

Summit is becoming house trained and is already crate trained. He’s a fast learner, and we suspect that the first part of “house training” was actually being in a house for the first time!  He is already comfortable on a leash, and he knows some basic commands -- he’s fluent in COME and DO IT (for peeing), and he’s currently mastering SIT.   Unlike many otherwise well-trained Setters, Summit actually comes when you call him!   Summit loves walks and runs on a leash, and he loves hiking and the smells of new trails.  He gets along fine with other dogs but he’s still learning to trust people.  He’s a good boy, and more than most he’ll benefit from a “furever” family that he can love and trust and will love him back.

Summit will follow birds and outdoor creatures, but he’s not a fierce hunter.  He likes to patrol the yard, and self-exercise is no worries with Summit around.  Nylabone chews are great for passing an afternoon, and he’s happy to share his chew toys with other members of his dog pack.

Summit is shy and not keen for loud noises like vacuums and blenders. With people he knows he’s very well socialized, but like many of us (who have been to bad parties), he’ll tuck his tail and look for the exits when people he doesn’t know or trust yet are around.  He’s not aggressive, and like all Setters he just needs a calm, happy home where you can gain his trust and his love forever.  Furniture privileges are new to him, and even without them he is happy around the house. Play time is also a new treat and he’s happy to play with other dogs,

Summit is smart and he adapts to new dogs and a new home quickly.  He loves walks and runs and outdoor smells, but we don’t know if he’s a hunter and he probably isn’t your best match if you’re looking for a hunting dog.  Summit is a calm young boy, but he is a young boy and you’ll probably do best with a yard and a 6 foot fence while he’s learning the outdoor wilds of home.  He is not a bolter, and a decent level of care on entries and exits should keep him contained and not a “dog of the neighborhood.”  Summit is smart and well-mannered, and has lots to learn in a family and home who will love him, engage with him and balance good indoor time with the joys of walks and lopes in the great outdoors.

Summit is an amazing dog and has so much potential.  He’ll do great in a home with an active older couple or an active family, as long as they are a reasonably quiet active family.  He takes queues from other dogs and feeds off their confidence.  He is most happy outside on leash or in the yard, or inside cuddled up with you.

Summit is in a foster home in Colorado Springs, CO. He is healthy, neutered, micro-chipped, and current on vaccines.  Are you the active people and dogs that bring this Summit to his peak experience?
