Meet Sally

Hello! My name is Sally! I came to MVPC a few months ago when I was rescued with over a dozen other dogs from a hoarding situation. I am the last one from the six MVPC took in to find my forever home. I am very, very skittish and shy. With every experience, I get a little better, but it takes a long time to earn my trust. Whomever becomes my forever family has to accept me as I am, because there is a chance I will never be a cuddly lap dog. I am fine with other dogs (considering they were all I knew for the beginning of my life) but I don't play very often and would not be a candidate as a playmate for another dog. Other confident, friendly dogs or cats in the home help me feel at ease and help me come out of my shell a little quicker. Once you have earned my trust, I will be excited to see you, allow you to pet me and look to you to ensure I am safe and explore the world around me. And if simply being in the room with you is as far as my mind expands, you have to be ok with it and love me anyway. My most current foster mom takes me on walks, to farmers markets and to dog training simply to expand my mind and I do GREAT. Every new experience unlocks another part of my brain and everyone believes I am young enough to really become a GREAT dog for someone who has the patience and love to see it through. I am completely housebroken and am very quiet unless new people come to the door (but most dogs bark when people come over, so it must be ok!). Children make me nervous, so older children only please as I tend to bond with one person. My crate is my safe place and anytime I feel insecure, I will run in and watch the world from there. I will always need to be on a slip lead when outdoors because if I get loose, I will be too scared to come to anyone. Human cues that most dogs get naturally are foreign to me. I was groomed for the first time in my life very recently and by the end, I was enjoying the pampering and I feel SO much better. With my person there holding me, I handle grooming like a champ and have no issues with nail trims, baths or scissoring. If you have shy/hoarder/puppy mill dog experience, you may be the best fit. I am simply not the dog you can assume will just "love you." It has to be earned and once it is, I am a very loyal, albeit independent, companion.

ADOPTION FEE: $200 (All MVPC dogs are heartworm-tested, completely vetted, spayed/neutered, microchipped)
ADOPTER: Mill dog/Hoarder experience and another dog
FENCE: Preferred, as a slip lead will be needed even in a fenced yard (an electric fence is not an acceptable form of containment)
CHILDREN: Yes, but over 10
DOGS: Yes
CATS: Yes

INQUIRIES: ALL inquiries begin with a submitted adoption application, which is found on our website, www.miamivalleypitcrew.com. We do not adopt to individuals under the age of 25.

DO NOT: USE THE PETFINDER CONTACT/ADOPT BUTTONS--we are unable to monitor those.

PLEASE NOTE: We are volunteer based and a home visit is required; we have a two-hour adoption radius from Kettering, OH for our adult dogs and 75 miles for our puppies. Exceptions for our ADULT dogs only, though rare, may be made on a case-by-case basis but we must be able to do a home visit. Thank you for your understanding!
