Personality

Haley is without a doubt the sweetest dog we have ever fostered. She has a very soft personality. She is LOVES and is wonderful with all people that she has met and loves to be petted. . She especially loves to be close when there's food . I do give her and two of her friends a slice of banana in the morning and she comes to expect it and waits eagerly.
She can also be very timid at times. She was overwhelmed coming here initially as we have several dogs and took a very long time to warm up. She would need this time in any new home as well.. She would find a spot in another room and hang out there. She now comes into kitchen with the others when it's mealtime. In fact she will give me a beg even when not asked for. She still likes her personal space.

People/Strangers and kids

People are no issue with her. We have had several events with many people here . She loves everyone. Loves my 4 year old grandchild as well. If she feels overwhelmed, she will retreat to her quiet spot.

Interaction with pack mates, dogs and cats

Initially she was frightened of all the dogs. She would retreat to a spot by herself. It has taken many months for her to accept the other dogs in her personal space. She prefers our MALE calm , quieter , playful dogs. She's not a fan of boisterous behaviour. She is more of a companion dog than a playing dog as it takes her a long time to warm up to the point of wanting to play . If another dog is sniffing her a little too much and pestering her she will give a growl. My son has a Great Pyrenees female and they aren't fond of each other. Both livestock protection dogs.
She loves our large outside dog run off the barn . The other day she initiated play with her MALE friends and would run around and get them to chase her. Then she would do a play bow { this after months to warm up and bond } .She is still not fond of our female dog in her personal space.
We have two cats. She could care less.

Energy level

Completely calm in the house. She does not run around. She is not hyper. Outside she can run when given an opportunity but I would say a medium level of energy.

Crating

She was crated here initially . We have not found it necessary. She does not destroy things. She did however start to eat the soil out of my floor plant that was in the room where she hung out. We now close the door when we aren't in that room and she sleeps elsewhere.

Food

She loves food. When she first arrived she got a loaf of bread off the counter. She has done that once since. We generally keep food out of reach for that reason. She did eat a candle that smelled good once also. She eats very quickly but doesn't inhale her food.

Toys

We have a basket of toys. She does like something to chew on from time to time. She dragged my husbands boot onto her dog bed once. She didn't chew it just kept it.

Dislikes

Not a fan of excitable/ playful dogs. Prefers calmer playful ones as it takes her time to warm up. She will need an owner to set boundaries to ensure her personal space is respected and that she is not pressured . Our dogs are all large and that seems to suit her. She does not like loud noises, including yelling. That frightens her. She will retreat to her spot. She has clearly been abused in her past and I believe hit and yelled at.

Leash and training

She is a charm on leash. She will walk right beside you. I walk her to the back of our farm on leash with the others loose and she's totally fine with that.
She is not trained or trustworthy off leash. She can spook and bolt on leash { which has happened} comes when she wants to. For that reason she can not be loose in an open area for her own safety.

Yard rules

She loves our large fenced in area and I would say a fenced in yard preferably bigger than smaller would suit her.
As she is untrustworthy off leash, I tie her out to pee or,take her out.
We live rural so she is not used too or has been exposed to town settings, and will need time t adjust to the sights/ sounds of these environments.

Grooming

As she is a dog that might live outside with livestock she has a thick coat. She does shed but if brushed frequently it's not too bad. She loves to be groomed. I use a rake on her as it pulls out her undercoat.
She doesn't mind her nails getting clipped either .

Traveling

She's not a fan of travelling alone. I believe she feels she's being dumped somewhere. When she has another doggie friend with her she's fine.

Things to work on

She is still timid. She will need a quieter household. Respectful children 8yrs + shouldn't be an issue. She is an alert barker so a very noisy area won't suit either.... but she is good for being told "quiet" and she will stop.
She is an independent thinker so can not be trusted off leash in an unsecured area due to her genetics and past abuse which makes her skittish.. She loves treats and praise.
She will bolt if let loose.

Haley will make someone a wonderful dog. I would like to see her have a Male buddy to play with and room for her to run around when bonded. She is large at just over 80 lbs. She is a lovely, sweet girl.. She is an easy keeper... just wanting time with her people and the social time with her packmates when she's in the mood.
