Meet Chance!

Chance is an approximately 7 month old adorable pitty mix. He was brought in to CCSPCA by a good Samaritan who found him laying on the side of a road on a towel, where he was presumably dumped. When he arrived to the shelter he was walking with a very stiff gait but was otherwise alert and responsive.

Unfortunately Chance declined in the shelter and was unable to walk at all, not eating or drinking, and had a high fever. He became urgent for rescue. Chance was taken to an emergency veterinarian by the shelter who prescribed Rimadyl and he also received fluids. There were no signs of fractures or trauma to cause his difficulty moving/walking and a Lyme's test was negative. He was still wagging his tail and so happy to see people, just so weak.

When Bella-Reed was made aware of his story, we secured a foster spot for Chance immediately and got transport from the shelter directly to our emergency vet.

Chance was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD), which is a bone inflammation disease in puppies under a year old that grow rapidly. It goes away prior to the dog turning a year old, but during a flare up, it is very painful. Chance has had a couple flareups that require hospitalization with IV fluids and pain medication.

Chance will not finish his vaccines or be neutered until he is fully medically cleared, however this will be done prior to adoption. While we are accepting applications now on Chance, he will not be elligible to go to his forever home until medically cleared and finishes his vetting.
