10/2/2017: This handsome pirate with the crooked smile goes by the name of Jeff! Jeff is a 1 1/2 year old Chihuahua/Terrier mix. He weighs just 10 lbs. He’s a small guy with long spindly legs. Jeff is truly a character and he’s very playful. He's also ready for Halloween and fulfilling his dreams of being a pirate! (He's a good sport!) Jeff is sometimes a little shy initially, but it doesn't take him long to warm up and then his goofy personality comes out! Jeff gets along with most other dogs. If you have a dog you could make an appointment to bring your dog to meet Jeff to see if they could be buddies. He gets along best with other playful dogs... he can be a little annoying to dogs who'd rather not play with him. Jeff likes cats, but he plays rough and most cats would not appreciate him. He probably needs a home without cats unless it's a special cat who wants to play. Jeff is fine with older kids but not a good match for small children— he play nips sometimes when he's all wound up and playing.

Jeff loves to go on walks and he fancies himself a big time squirrel and bunny hunter! He likes playing with toys and chewing on Nylabones. Once he’s had his exercise and playtime he’s a good napper and he looks like a baby deer when he sleeps. Jeff kennels up well at night and when his foster mom is leaving the house, and is pretty quiet when kenneled. He’d probably do fine in an apartment if his person were able to take him on long walks everyday and keep him exercised. Jeff is crate trained and working on house training.

He has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms. He was originally at KCK Animal Control, but he had a bite wound on his leg that needed stitches and veterinary care so we transferred him to our care. He’s all healed up now and ready for his new home! Jeff will be a fun companion-- his goofy personality makes us all laugh!

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
