KAI has arrived from the Humane Society for Southwest Washington and is in boarding at Good Citizen Dog!

From the shelter staff and volunteers: Meet Kai, a very active and happy five year old boy looking for a family who can provide plenty of exercise and love! Since being in the shelter, he has learned several tricks, including "sit" and "drop it"! He loves to play ball, and will even bring it back to you to throw again! Even though he is very playful, he would love to have a lap to lay in when its nap time, maybe a few scratches on the head and a bully rub while we are at it? Because of Kai's energy level, he would do best in a home with children over the age of fourteen. Kai would prefer his new home to have a six foot fence so he can run around safely. Kai would like to meet any children or dogs that he could be living with. Off site, he continues to be a perfect gentleman. He knows sit and down. Off-site, he walks well on leash. He loves to go jogging. He participates in our weekly Pack Walk which are group on-leash walks for shelter dogs. He is beautifully behaved on off-site Pack Walks and on outings with volunteers on his own too. However, in the shelter, he is chewing/tugging/biting the leash and has quickly chewed through several leashes when coming out/into his kennel. We swapped him to a chain leash but he has also quickly chewed through the leather handle on the chain leash. Oddly, when off site for his outings, he is well mannered and he walks nicely with a front clip harness and a nylon leash with no incidents It appears the many months of sheltering has stressed him to the point that it is affecting his behavior. Kai has been in the shelter system since 3/16 except for a 3 month adoption. Overall, he has been quiet and well behaved in the shelter. No dog reactivity. He lived with another dog and a cat in his former home.
