UPDATE July 2-17: Miles has an approved home and will be joining them shortly.

If you'd like to adopt Miles, please read about HART's screening process and download an adoption application to submit from the website: http://www.hartdogrescue.ca/adopt

Have you met Miles? We ask because he has a lot of friends. Friends who stepped up when he needed them most. They heard the story of what this wee puppy had endured in his short life. It's a story of horrible neglect. The unthinkable abuse he suffered resulted in the injury and subsequent amputation of one of his legs. When he came into our program, HART friends old and new donated to help support the hefty costs of his surgery, medications, rehabilitation and special food to help manage his compromised digestive needs.

Miles's luck changed that day when a HART volunteer gave him a chance. Through donations and virtual good wishes, and the extraordinary care of his foster family, Miles is a healthy, happy puppy who's loving life with 3 legs. Finally, Miles is ready to join his forever home. Check out his page on our website for his full story, progression, more pictures and video. We know there will be many people who are moved by his story and want to adopt Miles. If you are interested in adopting him, we ask that you read our requirements carefully. Please understand that our job is to find him the very best, most qualified home. Miles's friends have invested a lot. We are not only working in the best interest of him, but his friends and supporters too.

Miles needs a special home. But he needs more than love and cuddles. Because of the amputation, he will he require some extra care and attention as he grows and develops. Perhaps more importantly, Miles will need an adopter with a depth of experience in managing socialization, demonstrating leadership as well as managing special needs. Miles doesn't think of himself as a fur baby. He's a smart dog who is figuring out the world. And he needs a smart, patient leader to help him.

So, what's Miles like? He's very sweet and friendly with the people he knows but is shy with new people. He will hang back, maybe bark, and approach after a few minutes. He loves to play with his toys, chew bones and loves to fetch. He'll need some work on his reactivity when meeting new dogs. He has been around cats in his foster home and could potentially live in a home with a cat who is very dog savvy and could put him in his place.

Miles is not suited to a home with kids younger than 12. He needs a family where every member is old enough to play a consistent role in his training and development. His is suited to more frequent, shorter walks and romps. He's not suited to high impact exercise. Miles is scared of things and needs someone to help him build his confidence. It will be easy to take him new places to work on this because he loves car rides. He's a great passenger. He'll will absolutely need a fully detached home with a good sized fully fenced backyard. He is learning to be in his crate, although he prefers to be out and about. His housetraining coming along nicely and he's learned to use the dog door in his foster home. This smart boy catches on quickly!

Miles is a special dog with a compelling story. He deserves a special family who can meet all of his needs. If your family meets ALL of the requirements as outlined in this bio, please apply to adopt him through the HART website. http://www.hartdogrescue.ca/adopt

An adoption donation of $350 applies and a fenced yard is required. Miles is up to date with his vaccines, microchipped and in good health. He is too young to be neutered and will be adopted with a neuter contract in place. He comes with one month of free pet insurance. His birthday is October 23, 2016 and at 7 months of age he weighed 30 lbs.

Pet listings are updated daily. Unless it says otherwise at the top of this bio, this dog is still available for adoption.
