Good things come to those who wait, which is why the family that is patient enough to win Poppy's heart will also win the love of an incredible dog. After a full year on the run covered in almost 2lbs of matted hair and absolutely filthy and starving, Animal Control was finally able to catch Poppy and bring her safely to the shelter, where we didn't hesitate to rescue her and welcome her to the OMD crew. Poppy has been with us for an extended period (again, she is worth the wait…) as a year on the run can do a number on a girl. We felt that rather than rush Poppy into a forever home, it was extremely important to work with her on her socialization and trust. Let us tell you, the time, effort and patience that her foster family has put into her has most certainly paid off and she has come a long way.

It's safe to say that Poppy has nailed the role of playing hard to get, and she can be shy and a bit nervous during initial meetings with new people. Who knows what she saw on the streets that made her unsure of people! For that reason, we feel Poppy would flourish in a quieter home with older kids. Don't let her fool you though, once she is comfortable, she loves lap time and playtime with her people and other pups. Our Havenese/Poodle mix fluff would love a home with another playful canine friend or two as romping with others (she thinks she’s a big dog!) is one of her absolute favorite things. She is also a huge fan of exploring the yard…oh, and food of the veggie variety. If you happen to have any carrots or lettuce available, you can claim the title of Poppy Whisperer. At 2 years old and 15 lbs. our girl is housebroken, crate trained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped.
