Meet Freila

FREILA IS AVAILABLE FOR FOSTER OR ADOPTION
She is the perfect senior dog, easy to manage and not active.
BBBR Volunteer Photographer Brittany took her for a sleepover and says: Honestly she is incredible. She is house trained, she seems to be a free feeder and doesn't eat all of her food at once but comes back to graze periodically. She is very eager to please and listens intently to you. She seems to be really good motivated but when you actually give her a treat she spits it out (she's a food snob).
She walks amazing on leash, after the initial excitement of being out of the kennel yesterday she honestly walked loose leash next to me all day.
I brought her to work and to class with me and she laid on her back basically all day to soak up the love. I brought her to an outdoor program and she laid in my lap in a sunbeam for the afternoon. Her main life priority is to be in physical contact with someone at all times.
She is a couch and a bed dweller, I think she spent her whole life up on the couch and because of her love of the cushy life if someone adopts her they better let her up there. She's too perfect to say no to.
As far as animal aggression- she did 3 loose leash side by side walks with my dog and they just ignored each other. When she is outside she seems to not have any dog aggression. An off leash dog ran up to us and got right up in her butt and she didn't react until the dog was running away. I honestly wonder if she would have reacted at all or if she was reacting because I was yelling at the owner to get control of their dog. She is best suited as an only dog but great out on leash walks.
Fun fact- I have tortoises and forgot there was one loose on the floor. She ran right up to it and licked it and ran away. She definitely has a prey drive but would rather please a human than eat something so she laid on the ground and dramatically turned her head to prove she wasn't looking at it. Then I put it away.
She definitely has some separation anxiety at this point and doesn't like being left alone. Even if it's just in the other room. She settles after a bit but I think crate training would really benefit her.
If those baby carriers that people wear on their chest would accommodate a giant dog like Friela she would 100% be on board to be carried around in someone arms all day.

BBBR Boarding Facility Coordinator Jennifer says: Freila is an adorable snuggle bug! She's a decent walker, too, as long as she gets some rest breaks (and snuggle time). She didn't show any reaction to the cat we walked past, or to the dogs on the other side of the street. Please call or text BBBR Boarding Facility Coordinator Jennifer at 559 706-4226 for additional information.
Thank you to BBBR Volunteer Rob for taking Freila to training at Good Citizen Dog. Rob says: I picked her up around 1:30 and took her on some adventures before class and she couldn't have been a better dog! We encountered several dogs and she had zero reaction to them. A few dogs were on the other side of a chain link fence, some she walked up to and sniffed noses and some she completely ignored. Not once did she growl, bark or show any sign of aggression, and never once pulled the leash tight.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO BBBR PHOTOGRAPHER BRITTANY FOR PHOTOGRAPHING FRIELA AT THE SHELTER.
These photo's capture her personality.
Brittany says: Friela is lovely as always! She has been at West Valley Humane Society for quite some time but still manages to show enthusiasm and affection when you take her outside.
This girl is a chunky monkey and could use a good diet and plenty of exercise in her new home but she absolutely loves to play so that should be an easy task!
Friela loves to explore her environment and smell everything that she can. She is pretty good on a leash and would be quite the adventure buddy for someone. She loves to play and run around outside and would love to have a yard to call her own.
Once you get on her level she is so affectionate and would love to be a lap dog. She immediately hopped right up on my lap and flopped on her side. After giving her some love she flopped on her side to give us access to her belly for some good belly rubs.
