Meet Pierre

Hi, I'm Pierre! You wouldn't believe my story if you saw how good I look now, but there was a time when I was never taken outdoors, never groomed and was infested with fleas. Things have really turned around for me here. I am staying with a shelter volunteer and this is what she has to say about me: "Pierre will need time to warm up to the people in his new home. A home where someone is home most of the day would be best. Since being here he has not been alone for more than three to four hours. We do not crate him when we are gone because he tried to escape from the crate. He has not chewed anything or had accidents when we are gone. We do keep things off the floor and cords out of his reach. He is a hoarder he loves to take shoes or any items he can get and put them on his favorite chair or in his bed and he does like to chew them. At night I crate him in our room and he does not fuss. He is 95 % housebroken. He loves soft toys and in the house he is a typical puppy. He loves to play fetch and sitting on laps now, but this took about three weeks. He is not fearful in the house now. He is a low energy dog. He is not much of a barker. He is not possessive of toys or food. He can get a little mouthy but does stop with a firm no. He is learning to come when called. He is treat motivated. So far, when new people come into the house, Pierre barks out of fear, but stays away. He is now comfortable on our screened in porch and will sit on my lap on the deck and observe things. He now wants to smell in the backyard and try to chase our resident yard bunny and squirrels he even watches birds with interest. He has even wanted to explore my garden all this has just begun during the last week. With time and patience he will see that the world is an interesting place . Although he is feeling comfortable in the back yard, the front of the house is still extremely frightening for him but in less than five weeks he has come a long way." Due to my background, I do have some baggage, but I am worth the extra work once you get to know me! I need an experienced owner with a quiet home where there are no kids under 10. I need a lot of attention if I am going to be a well-balanced pup, so I need a home where the people are gone no more than 4 hours on an average day. Patience is the key for me so if you have plenty of that, we will do just fine! If you would like to make an appointment to meet me, please fill out the first page of the WSHS dog adoption application and email or fax it to adoptiondesk@wshs-dg.org or 630-960-9604. The application can be found on the website: http://www.wshs-dg.org/resource-center/downloadable-files Once it has been reviewed, my foster mom will schedule an appointment with you to meet me in person!
