Sunshine #2 aka Sonny Black Labrador Retriever Rockville, MD

Sunshine, now known as Sonny, is a 7-year-old neutered black male. He was in pretty rough shape when he came into Lab Rescue but is now well on the way to recovery. His skin looks good and his coat is smoother and shiny. He has been with a foster and is doing a lot better. He is a happy dog who likes to be with you and is good with other dogs. He walks very nice on a leash and enjoys car rides. He likes to sleep in his crate with the door open. Sonny really likes getting his ears and head scratched, and the base of his tail scratched. Sonny does not get on the furniture other than his front legs to get attention. He is a quiet dog only barks when he is happy in one set of three barks. He has been going to the dog park and the other day he started playing with some of the regulars chasing them then turning around and getting chased. He would like a home with a family fenced yard as he will wander off if there isn't one. He likes to go for walks and enjoys being able to sniff out who has been there. Kids 6 and up, lived with two now 6 & 14 with no problems. Lived with 4 other dogs ranging from a Westie to a retriever with no problems. Owner had an outside cat who he was scared of. Knows basic commands. Good on lead. House and crate trained. Has run of the house and uses dog door. Bit of a counter surfer. Scared of thunderstorms will come to be with you or will go hide in closet if no one is around.

Foster family reports: What a difference a few weeks make! Sonny has gained 3 pounds, his coat is now complete and shiny, and his muscles are coming back. He is a happy dog who sings when you get home keeping his beat with his tail, He likes to carry something in his mouth, be it toy, sock, shoe or other treasure he finds. He has a gentle lean, is respectful with little kids, and loves to snuggle, falling to sleep with a big sigh and quiet snore. Knows sit, wait, back up, get out of the kitchen, and do you want to go to the bark park. His favorite game is “What do you have now?”. Sonny enjoys his crate. He enjoys chewing antlers and playing. He loves riding in the car and going to the bark park and playing with other dogs. He has several friends there who he chases and wrestles with. Walks nicely on a loose leash. He looks like a new dog compared to what he looked like when he came into Lab Rescue. His allergy medication are working as his skin isn’t inflamed, he isn’t scratching and his coat is filling in nicely. He is looking for a home with a family that has; a fence, will give him lots of love, attention and exercise. Another dog would be a plus.


Sonny weighs 73 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with adults and/or kids ages 6 and up.

This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. The rescue has about 50 dogs available for adoption at any given time.
