Vivian--Dog, cat, and kid friendly Gentle Giant! Pit Bull Terrier & Mastiff Mix Chicago, IL

Miss Viv was originally adopted from our organization in 2013 but due to the addition to her household of a family member with profound allergies, she is now looking for a new place to call home. Since her original adopters know her best, we're sharing their words about her below.

Vivian is one of the loveliest dogs you will ever meet. She is very patient and gentle with adults and children alike. She has been around our nieces and nephew (ages 1.5-5) without any issues. You do however have to watch out for her tail because it can pack a good little whack. She loves her humans even more than other dogs. She has never shown any aggression towards children or adults; she sidles next to you, gives kisses and follows you around for more love.

Vivian has never had any issues with other dogs and is always happy to meet a new buddy on her walks. She has visited with other dogs in a family backyard before and loves running and playing together. From the time she has spent at a sitter's home, we have also heard that she gets along with cats.

Vivian is very food oriented and will eagerly take direction if there are treats involved. She is excellent with her basic commands: sit, stay, lay down, place (we have "place" to mean her dog bed on the floor in the living room), paw/shake, and come. She'll even touch her nose to your glass when you say "Cheers." She is a lovable couch potato, but also loves going on walks and tug of war and chasing type play. She really loves nothing more than plopping down wherever you're at to be near you. She is a larger sized little love bug, but she enjoys going on walks and playing with her owner and/or other dogs; she loves running around together and loves playing around with other doggie friends! She has visited with family members in the suburbs and loves romping around in the yard with other pups.

Overall, she is an easy dog. She has had an occasional UTI and stomach discomfort, but on a quality dog food with simple ingredients, we have found these are easily avoidable. She experienced two UTI's last year, but hasn't experienced any further symptoms since we changed her dog food.

She has been crate trained, but does equally well without it if she is left for short periods of time. She has both slept in a bed with her owners and slept in her crate, though most recently sleeping in her crate for the past year. She is excellent with boundaries as long as someone is around. She definitely understands which rooms and furniture are not ok; however, if left alone she will probably go there if it looks like a cozy spot!
