Meet Coyote

Coyote was born in Mexico and brought to Canada before she was surrendered to the shelter when her owner no longer had time for her. She has the typical look of the free-ranging dogs that populate developing countries around the world, and is most likely not a true ‘mixed breed' of two or more purebred dogs, but rather a ‘primitive dog' or ‘village dog' evolved without human intervention from the ancestors of today's purebred dogs. Coyote is a sweet, affectionate girl, very well socialized with people, and has no issues with being handled. She is very playful, loves toys, playing fetch, and playing tug; she is a high energy dog and will need lots of exercise, so active owners are required! Coyote pulls hard on a leash and needs to be walked on a no-pull harness until she learns to walk politely on leash. While only a medium size (44 lbs), she is very strong and can be quite a handful; when overstimulated, she will try to chase cars and bikes and nip at your feet. Coyote reacts strongly with most other dogs and is not a candidate for running off leash. She has a strong prey drive and cannot go to a home with cats. Coyote's previous owner told us that she is house trained and used to being left alone in the home, and that she loves car rides. We would like Coyote's new owners to be dog experienced, live in a house with a securely fenced yard, and have no children under the age of 16 (although Coyote has lived with small children and was said to be good with them). We will also require that they sign up for private classes with a trainer who uses positive reinforcement-based methods to help them work on Coyote's issues. Are you the one who is going to turn Coyote's luck around and help her become a well behaved Canadian? Then come to the shelter to meet her!
