Frankie - Special Boy Shih Tzu & Poodle Mix Shrewsbury, MA

Frankie is a special boy in search of a special home. Frankie joined Broken Tail Rescue in late December. His former owners had puppy fever. When they found this adorable boy with that Teddy Bear face on Craigslist, they could not resist. Shortly after they brought Frankie home he began to have seizures. The family was not emotionally or financially prepared to care for a dog with medical needs.

Frankie's seizures are now managed with medication. His neurology exam was normal and the source remains a mystery. Frankie is a social and inquisitive boy. He loves to play with other dogs and his people. He's almost ten months old, 19 pounds, good with other dogs and cats and yes, he's house trained. He's an absolute charmer and went to work with one of the fosters, where he befriended everyone, including the other dogs and cats at the clinic.

These are some of the considerations any potential adopter should think about:

* Frankie's medication schedule is 2x per day. Medication is rolled up into wet food (we call it doggie meatballs). Since the medication has a limited half life, it's important that he receive his medication on schedule.

* The estimated cost for medication is $70.00 per month.

* Frankie will also require blood work 2x a year. The estimated cost depending on the profiles requested the expected cost will range between $300 and $600 per year.

This special boy needs a special adopter that is able to commit themselves to Franike's care. Sometimes we chose and other times we are chosen. If you chose to become Frankie's caretaker, the rewards will be priceless.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
