Meet Eddie-Adopted!

I've been adopted!! T he wait is over, Eddie; Boston Buddies’ own Super Hero is finally available for adoption! This handsome, athletic, 28 pound neutered male Boston Terrier will leap into your heart with a single bound! The Bakersfield shelter estimated his age to be 8 years old but his foster Mom thinks he is younger. His story begins when he was brought in as a stray with a very large tumor protruding from his abdomen. He was released to Boston Buddies and our volunteers transported him immediately to our vet. The doctor felt the surgery required to remove the tumor was too much to take on and suggested euthanasia. Our Directors felt Eddie deserved a second chance, so they took him for a second opinion at our specialty hospital. Luckily the specialty surgeons were up for the challenge and the tumor was successfully removed. The test results confirmed it was squamous cell carcinoma. Due to the mass being so close to his “sensitive area” they were only able to get very thin margins so chemotherapy was necessary. It has been 2 months and Eddie is tolerating the treatments like a champ. Eddie’s super canine strength empowers him to fight anything bad that is thrown his way! At his latest follow up appointment his red and white blood cell count was perfectly normal. Eddie will remain on chemotherapy for as long as he continues to tolerate it and it continues to work. Eddie also had some precancerous lesions on his chest and abdomen that the dermatologist zapped off. He will have to be continuously monitored for these in the future and have them removed as they appear. Eddie is very good about wearing his sun shirts as a protective shield from those harmful UV rays and he will come with his wardrobe of festive sun wear. Eddie’s new family will need to agree to and be financially capable of keeping him on the chemo and other treatments and tests that are saving his life. Average annual cost of such treatment is approximately $3000. Eddie might not be faster than a speeding bullet but he has energy to spare. It is quite a sight to see him do his wiggling booty dance when the harness and leash come out and he knows it is time to head out on a hike! Eddie is quite popular around town and has participated in several fundraising walks – he even got to wear a cancer survivor bandana at one of them! Eddie is currently fostered with several other dogs and gets along with everyone. Did we mention how smart he is, knows sit, down, stay, shake and beg. He is doggie door trained, not a barker, digger or chewer. Honestly this guy is “Super”! You will never find a better companion then Eddie!
