Meet Keegan

Bio:
I am Keegan.

I am a Border Collie.

I am a deaf Border collie.

I am a smart deaf Border collie.

As such, I have many typical Border Collie traits and tendencies. I am loyal to my people (pack) and will probably be less enamored with strangers and folks in crowded conditions. I already do the Border Collie crouch and have herding tendencies in my genes. As such, I wouldn’t do well in a place with young children and toddlers, because their unpredictable motions would be a source of stress for me and the family.

Dog parks are not in my future- it will be far better to bond and work with my human(s) in a more private area. I am learning hand signals and gravitate to wherever my people are. I am learning to check in with my folks and eventually should be able to hike a trail unleashed . All is possible with proper handling.

As a 14 week old puppy, I do puppy things like chewing most anything, getting underfoot at any time, going to sleep anywhere and waking up with new energy. Want your broom hauled from room to room? I can do it. You can tell from my pictures that I have excellent ear control (Red Skelton would be proud of me.)

I am quite good about doing my business outside. I eat and sleep nicely in a crate (with only a little initial reluctance about the sleeping part). When the food bowl is put in the crate it’s all hands on deck.

Like all puppies I will do best with folks who are around much of the day during my formative months and that type of situation will be preferred when an adoptive home is considered. I’ll be lots of work, need patience and understanding, and the ultimate reward of doing the work is many years of joy and fulfillment. So don’t just judge me on how cute I am – be prepared to give me the proper foundation.

My foster home had a smart deaf Border Collie for upwards of 15 years and there are many fond memories of her. I can carry on this tradition and spread the joy.

If you think a smart deaf Border Collie named Keegan would be in your future, please fill out the SPDR application and contact Bob : harleybob@att.net or by phone: 253-229-2623
