Meet Mr. McGIBBLETS

When our Director of Intake told me about a friend of hers who had been feeding an intact tom cat at her home out in the country for over 2 years, I was praying that he would be approachable and unafraid enough for us to welcome him into our program. Mary had been diligently working with the buff and white boy for 6 months, finally getting him to allow her to pet him, pick him up, snuggle him close and enjoy human contact. Since she wasn’t able to bring him indoors (darn husband:) she set up shelter for him in a camper on their property, but he really wanted indoors and took to crying at her door; seems that once he got a taste of kindness and compassion he couldn’t get enough:) Harriet went out to meet him on November 22nd, 2015 and instantly fell in love with this great guy (born in last 2012) with the ginormous noggin; since I have an affinity for the fat-heads, she couldn’t wait for me to meet him! When laid eyes on his magnificent face and his jowls a-plenty the next day, I could hardly contain myself from pinching those adorable cheeks, but I curbed my enthusiasm and got to work on the many issues he had going on. Not only was the mighty Mr. McGibblets (as I named him) in need of neutering, he had to be treated for fleas and an anemia brought on by a blood parasite transmitted by those pesky critters; he was also plagued by a very painful condition known as ‘Pillow Foot’ or pododermatitis, which required treatments with steroids, antibiotics and daily foot soaks. Luckily, this protocol not only helped his swollen tootsies, but within 2 weeks time his red blood cell percentage was normal AND a nasty respiratory virus he came down with was minimalized since heavy-duty drugs were already on board!

In spite of his problems, McGibblets was not one to complain; in fact he couldn’t have been more accepting of his treatments and appreciative for the kindness and compassion showed to him. And as he grew stronger and healthier each day, his fondness for the people around him grew exponentially, with his expressions of gratitude and appreciation manifested by his ever-present lap lounging! There isn’t a volunteer who can refuse this guy when he crawls into your arms, nestles his chubby cheeks under your chin and holds on with such an intense embrace that your heart cracks and melts! After all that McGibblets had endured prior to becoming a Sid’s Kid (yes, he tested FIV+), he deserves all the best that we have to offer him; if it means we have to hunker down on the floor and let him nap while our limbs fall asleep, or to carry him around like a baby while tending to our chores...so be it! Our giant is gentle, genuine and grateful—and we are enamored by every square inch of him! He is going to make someone the most awesome of companions, as he is a charming and sweet as they come! And he adores the company of other cats, especially kindred spirit and look-alike Dixon. Since he is a lover and not a fighter, risk of transmitting FIV to another cat in an established household is minimal, so there is no reason why Mr. McGibblets can’t be considered for adoption; in our opinion, he should be at the top of the list!
