Meet Shakira

Hi! My name is Shakira and my hips don't lie! I am an approximately 5 year old Chihuahua mix gal who weighs in at 12 1/2 pounds. My body is pear-shaped. You ladies out there know that those extra calories always go to the hips and thighs! I love to go outside and explore the yard. I pull a bit when I am on a leash so a harness is a better choice for me. With regular daily exercise I should be able to shed those few unwanted pounds.
Check out my polka dotted coat! Pretty special, huh? I am a well-mannered gal who is quiet in the house and content to chill out in my crate or perched on the back of the sofa. I do my business outside although I have piddled a few times in the house. Can't help it! This place is full of new sights and smells and I am a bit nervous. Shy around new people, I prefer to stand back and observe and approach when I feel ready. I do not growl or snap, that's just plain rude! I get along with men, women and other dogs as long as they don't get too familiar right away. My foster dog brother is a big, butt sniffing, bouncing menace. I put up with him but let him know that I am a lady and not into his rough housing.
Perfectly sized for apartment living and neighbor friendly (neighbors love quiet dogs), I am ready to find a permanent place in a quiet household. Older kids would probably be okay but younger versions are just too noisy, rambunctious and unpredictable. They scare me! Cats would probably be okay too. I am a cautious gal so am unlikely to take on an animal with claws.

Recently spayed, I am up to date on all vaccinations and am negative for heartworm and Lyme disease. As an added bonus, I have a microchip.

Did I say that I think car rides are a blast? I love to stand up and look out the window so really appreciate a driver who can avoid the sudden stops and sharp corners.
If you think I could be the right girl for you, please fill out an adoption application. I would love to meet you and the sooner, the better!

NOTE: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
