Meet Oscar

4/23/16 - I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!
Adoption Fee: $325
Fostered in Louisiana
Age: 6 years
Weight: 6 lbs.

1/25/16 - An update: Oscar came to our rescue with Sarcoptic Mange, heartworms, needing a dental and juvenile cataracts, not to mention the normal vetting that he did not have and needed. He is totally free of mange and has a complete gorgeous body of hair now, completed heartworm treatment and just had his dental and is enjoying his pearly whites and fresh breath. Soon we will make an appointment with the Ophthalmologist at Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialist and see if Oscar is a candidate for cataract surgery. He can see fine, but we feel that since he is so young, it would be a shame for him to go blind in the next couple of years when we can give him the gift of sight along with all his other gifts recently.

With all that being said, the last gift that Oscar will need is the gift of a family. He is a great little guy with the biggest zest for life his foster mom has seen in a long time. He gets along with other dogs and would actually love one to play with. He adores his humans and follows them everywhere. He eats great, sleeps right up against his human, listens well when called and thoroughly enjoys being petted and loved on and playing with his humans and toys. He is working on his potty training and currently wears a belly band (doggy diaper for male dogs), but does go outside each time brought.

He already knows he's cute and we are fixing everything that was medically wrong with him, so don't be shy, go ahead and fill out the application so we can see if you might be a match for this great baby boy.

10/29/15 - Oscar came into the YHR program on 8/18/15, but because of sarcoptic mange, had to stay at the vet’s office until he was clear of mange and was released to his foster home on 9/1/15. Aside from his mange, Oscar is heartworm positive and in desperate need of a dental. He has been resting and growing his hair back since 9/1/15 and is turning into quite the handsome fellow. He will start heartworm treatment on 11/4 and once that is completed, about 3 months, he will have his dental performed. We also visited the ophthalmologist on 10/15/15 because Oscar has severe cloudiness in both eyes. It was determined that he does in fact have cataracts and once all his other vetting is done, we will go back for more testing to see if he is a candidate for surgery. He is only estimated at 6 years of age and it would be a shame for him not to be able to see well if he is a candidate for great eyesight.

9/2/15 - Lost, lonely, hungry, infested with fleas, bacterial and yeast infections, sarcoptic mange and heartworms. This is what Oscar had going on when he was brought into animal control. He was not having a good day, week or past months. He seemed to be jinxed.

That luck started to turn around when a nice lady contacted Yorkie Haven Rescue to see if we had any foster homes available. We got him the next day and immediately went to the vet’s to start treatment for his contagious mange. He had to stay at the vet for 14 days until a negative skin scraping proved he was free of mange and not contagious any longer.

He is finally in his foster home and although he has a long road ahead of him, he is a happy little man. It will take a while before his hair grows back completely and he also needs a dental and to go through heartworm treatment, but for now he is going to take a break and relax in his foster home.

Wednesday evening when he was brought home from the vet, he had a medicated bath, ate some supper, and tried out all the beds in the house. His tail has been wagging nonstop as if he knows it's all going to be great from here on out. He slept in the human bed under the covers all night that first night. He has been through so much and was exhausted.

Oscar would like to say thank you for those who have donated to his care. Please check back from time to time as we will be updating his bio as his vetting continues and with bits about his personality traits as we learn them.

8/19/15 - BIO COMING SOON!
