Austin Shepherd & Cattle Dog Mix Madras, OR

Austin came to us as a stray. He is a very sweet, sensitive, Shepherd mix of about 2 years old. He is friendly and outgoing but when we make a sudden move with our hands or tools, he hits the ground! He lacks a bit of confidence, but he makes up for it in willingness to please and an eagerness for treats. We introduced him to several different dogs today, and he was quickly overwhelmed by super playful and exuberant dogs. It looks to us like a lack of experience rather than any type of aggression, because when he was introduced to a well behaved, balanced dog, he did great. He met the office cat, and when he curiously went up to sniff him, the cat slowly swatted at him and he ran off. So much for bravery! No signs of aggression whatsoever! We do not adopt dog into homes where they will be outside dogs. We believe dogs belong inside with their people.

Pupdate - Sweet Austin is doing very well in playgroups. He will not fight, and we continually see him deferring to the other dogs. A very good characteristic! He is still jumping up, as he looks to us for comfort and security and, quite frankly, he really loves being near us, but we are working on the jumping up, too. He gets lots of rewards and attention when he keeps all 4 on the floor! He is a dog that will constantly reward you with the feeling that you are so special! He continues to thrive with affection.

Austins adoption fee is $125 and includes neuter, current vaccines, microchip, free vet visit, 30 days free pet health insurance and custom engraved ID tag.
