Meet Max: Adopted!!!

Date of birth: 9/2013

2/26/2017: Max the Superdog is a super cute and fun Lab/Hound mix. He has a pretty red coat and an expressive face. Max is playful and a fairly energetic guy. He LOVES to play fetch! He also enjoys going for long walks. Max is very bright, affectionate and a people pleaser. BE SURE TO WATCH HIS VIDEO!

Max is a very affectionate, but does need time to warm up to new people. He has some fear issues in new situations and with new people, but once he knows he can trust you, he’s very loyal and loving. He'd be a great match for someone who is fairly active and has some dog experience, and is looking for a fun, smart and loyal companion. He may do better with a woman, or adjust easier. He was in a home for awhile and bonded well with the woman but the man had a harder time getting Max to trust him in all situations. Max does well with the male volunteers and staff here, so we can't say for certain if a woman would best for him or if it just depends on the individual.

Max has been to obedience classes to work on extra socialization and training. He's a smart guy! He's trained in Canine Good Citizen class and can do most of the things needed to pass that test now. The classes have been very beneficial for Max socially. He's also done some agility course work and likes it. We'd highly recommend his new person continue training classes with him. More socialization should really help him to overcome any fear issues he has.

Max is 3 years old and weighs 60 lbs. He is house trained. He rides nicely in the car. Max is not a good match for a home with children due to his fear issues with some new people. He gets along well with most other dogs. If you have a dog, we’d ask you to make an appointment to bring your dog in to meet Max so that we can determine if they’d be a good match. He does need a home without cats.

We found Max hanging out on our property one morning. Someone had left him tied to a tree. He’d slipped his collar but luckily he didn’t run off! He’s a really sweet guy with tons of potential with the right person, and he has been with us for quite some time now.

MORE ON ADOPTING OUR DOGS...

Please visit our web site at HSGKC.ORG for more information about our adoption process, our adoption fees and all that's included, and for a pet adoption application.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. We encourage you to fill out an online adoption application and submit it before you come to see us. This helps us process your application more quickly and we can schedule an appointment for you to come in so that our small staff can serve you best. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of the pets you meet, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the pet home with you that day. We’ll instead schedule a pick up date and time that’s convenient for you.

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

Thank you for searching for a shelter pet!
