Meet Oscar - Sue

Hi, my name is Oscar and I'm a 2 year old Lab/Hound mix. I'm currently living in a foster home where I'm being socialized with other animals and practicing good doggy behaviors. My foster family says I have good house manners - they let me up on the couch and I love that, but they think I could be easily trained not to do this if my forever home doesn't want me on the couch. I have free run of my foster home and I've been well behaved. I love to go on walks and play fetch. In fact, my foster family plays fetch with me at least once a day and takes me on a daily 1 mile walk - this daily exercise makes me a happier dog and easier to train. I am trusting in my foster home and enjoy getting attention from my foster family and cuddling with them as well. I also like to have time by myself and will relax in the sun on the deck of my foster home.

I am going to be a special needs boy; I have been diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia. I am currently taking a supplement that helps keep me comfortable and will need this for the rest of my life. I do not need surgical correction for this right now, but I might in the future. I need a home to love and play with me, and make sure I stay pain free. I am the sweetest boy around and will be sure to bring lots of enjoyment into your life, so please ask about me!

**Oscar's potential adopter should be dominant, yet kind. Oscar needs to respect his people. He recognizes good people, and is willing to trust them (despite all his human disappointments). Oscar is highly trainable but is also a dog who will challenge an owner who is not consistent in her/his expectations. He is OK with the basic commands “come", no, down, and sit. He gives the most resistance when called to "come" when he's outdoors but that is improving. We have been working on "quiet" or "no bark" and he's getting pretty good at that.

Oscar is a wonderful dog that is sure to bring lots of fun and excitement to his forever home. If you think he'd be a good match for you, please ask about him today!

****My adoption fee is $195.****

The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed.

All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws.

Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $25 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization.

The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
