Delta Retriever & Border Collie Mix Albany, NY

DELTA - Retriever/possibly Border Collie mix, female, ~1 year old. Delta and her sister DAWN (below, "Also in program") were semi-feral and terrified of all people and everything in life except other dogs - when they first arrived. They are improving dramatically, and Delta is now ready for her forever home. She will still need patience and slow introduction to things, but she has a glowing spirit and love of life and sense of impishness that will, with time, make her a very exceptional and fun companion. She LOVES, LOVES, LOVES other dogs, but she's afraid of cats. However, she's slowly coming to terms with her foster home's extremely self-confident feline, so placement with the right one is a possibility. Delta appears to love children but she's very much a child herself and would not understand that toys, books, shoes, and socks weren't playthings meant to be shared and chewed upon! There is also concern that if allowed to get loose she might panic and bolt, so we are looking for a home without young children. She is 100% house-trained with a dog door and smart as a whip, so she would learn the right signals quickly. Delta is still uncomfortable with people approaching her and reaching to touch her, but once she trusts you, she will come TO you and seems to love being petted. Life with Delta is really an unending wonder.
