Meet Chuck
Â
Chuck (Sug - pronounced like 'Sugar') is an 8 year old tan cocker spaniel who was dumped at the shelter by his owners. He has been in Calgary for just a couple weeks and is slowly settling in. Sug spent the first couple days in his foster home scared and hiding in the bedroom. After a few days he slowly warmed up and has now settled in quite nicely. Sug likes things to be very calm and peaceful. He enjoys playing with a tennis ball and being around his 2 other cocker spaniel foster brothers, more so though when they are not playing too rough or loud. Sug would love a home with other low energy calm dogs. He loves to cuddle with humans but prefers not too be smothered as he really enjoys his own space. Sug really loves calm, quiet energy and lets you know vocally when he is uncomfortable or is feeling overwhelmed which is great. Because he thrives on calm energy his foster family believes he would do best in a adult only home, or a home with older children who can understand and respect his calm personalty. He loves food, treats, going for walks, is fine to stay home during the day alone, knows basic commands and we believe he is house trained. Overall a sweet low maintenance guy!
Update on Sug: 03/18/13Â Sug is finally settling in and letting his guard down. It has taken a few weeks for him to really come out of his shell and trust his foster family. He used to hide in the evenings and sleep under the bed and would growl if you tried to coax him out. He now joins his foster family on the bed for the entire night - totally sprawled and loving life. He is house trained, has no food/toy aggression and is a huge cuddle monster. He still would require a calm consistent household with older children as he does get overwhelmed and will voice his unhappiness. Sug has been to the off leash several times and has great recall. He gets along well with other low energy dogs. Would perhaps do best in a cat free household as he is quite fixated on the cat in his foster home now (hasn't hurt him, just chases him and stares at him!). Sug is a wonderful easy dog to have around!
