Melissa Miniature Pinscher & Feist Mix Louisville, KY

Melissa is a vivacious dog with a guesstimated birth date of December 2010 that weighs around 30 lbs.   If you look closely at her picture, you'll note faint scarring on her muzzle as if someone had tied her mouth shut for an extended period of time. While Melissa can be a little vocal when excited or when she sees something or someone new, no amount of barking deserves such cruel and inhumane treatment!   When Melissa arrived at ACS in 2011 she was very outgoing but a shelter environment (even one as loving and attentive as ours) has been too limiting and too much of the wrong kind of stimulation for a dog as active and intelligent as Melissa.  She needs a living environment where she will get lots of exercise and an owner who will regularly challenge her thru training.   You can easily see that Melissa truly wants to please the people she loves and she is a very quick learner.    We suspect she has some Feist blood coursing through her veins as she was quite the agile climber when she first arrived at the shelter a couple of years ago. Because of this, she needs  a home with a privacy fence rather than a chain link fence. Now that she's a little older and a little heavier, we don't think she can still climb a fence but better to be safe than sorry! Melissa  LOVES car rides and long walks in the park.  She rarely, if ever, potties in her kennel but we have no way of knowing for certain if that translates to her being house-trained.  She's such a clean dog, though, that we'd be surprised if she wasn't.  Melissa tends to fake a little "attitude" at times around other dogs and definitely does better with male dogs than female dogs.  She may have some 'rough edges' that need to be smoothed out a little bit but with the right owner, this diamond in the rough will become a real gem of a dog!   To find out if Melissa would be a good fit for you and your household, just stop by the shelter and ask to meet her. /// MELISSA IS SPONSORED BY CATHERINE GOODMAN THRU SEPTEMBER 2015.
