Annabelle American Bulldog & Labrador Retriever Mix West Palm Beach, FL

Annabelle came out of a high kill shelter on 12/3/10 with her 7 puppies of which there was only one survivor. As a mom she was wonderful as a healthy body she was not. She was severely emaciated and nothing but bones and trying to nurse 7 babies. For a few days she did great and was showing improvment in her weight, and then the wretched kennel cough set in and even though many of her puppies were now being hand fed, she still remained to decline regardless of attempts.

On Dec 22, 2010 she was admitted into a specialty hospital where she was put on IVs and given heavy doses of strong antibiotics to try and turn round her pnemonia. She was sent home on the 26th and it was suggested that I put her to sleep because she may have also had distemper. I drove home and said one thing to her "you can either eat and learn to walk again or you can go to sleep forever, I cant make you do eitehr, but I can help, the rest is up to you." The next day I started a rigorous eating regimine as well as making her walk again by using a harness around her chest and one around her his and down the sidewalk we went. Anywhere from 3-5x a day we would 'walk' to the point where she was starting to rebuild muscle tone and actually be able to walk on her own. All in all it took about 6 weeks for her to be able to walk without support.

Now, she is a vibrant, happy and healthy lover who just wants to snuggle and be a pal. She is very curious about cats, and does well with other dogs but she needs to meet SLOWLY at first. Shes learnign to walk well on a leash, and she loves to lunch after lizards.

This dog is a true miracle and she would make a great additon to any family. Please know her "Special Needs" are that she walks regularly, even swimming may be an option, she needs to keep her weight down She loves her walks, and is getting better at barking at strangers. I feel this poor girl who was once covered in demodex mange, had horrible tear duct production, and was emaciated was a street dog and had little to know human contact or knew what love is, now she can be somewhat protective at first, but she is quic to learn what is appropriate and what is not.

This animals adoption fee includes ALL vaccines, it has been spayed or neutered, dewormed, microchipped with first year registration (some chips its lifetime), rabies and tag for Palm Beach County, has been tested for HW, and is on flea and heart worm prevention.
